The ladies do well in outside competitions

THE Castlecomer ladies teams had a busy and successful week on the inter-club scene. The intermediate team of Betty Owens, Helen Murphy, Caroline Conway, Ita Madigan and Jacinta Culliton scored a good win over Portarlington in Athy.

The minor team members Nuala Mahon, Noreen Kinsella, Patricia Doheny, Mary Brophy and Delia O’Donoghue were in action against Rathdowney in The Heath. They also had a win.

The Finn Trophy team had their first outing against Borris in Castlecomer on Saturday. In a closely fought match ’Comer came away with a win.

The five pairings were Emer Foley/Mary Rice, Betty Byrne/Patricia Doheny, Betty Owens/Mary Brophy, Maureen Norton/Joan Coonan, Ita Madigan/Delia O Donoghue.

The junior foursomes team play Kilkenny this week in Callan. The Irish mixed foursomes team play their second round against Mount Wolseley on Saturday in Mount Wolseley.

This weekend the popular men’s vice-Captain’s prize to the ladies will be played, thanks to vice-Captain Eamonn Breen.

SOCIETY RATES: The club has competitive rates for Golf Societies where people can book golf, buggies and food. There are package sto suit all requirements.

OPEN SINGLES: Thursday Open men’s singles competitions will re-commence on Thursday, April 6. As in previous years winners of Thursday competitions will go forward to grand final in October. Entry fee will be €6 for members and €15 for visitors.

SCRAMBLE: Nine hole every Tuesday. Draws from 5pm.
