TOWNS CUP: On Saturday, Mountain View beat Gowran Park in the Provinsial Towns Cup. There were five games at home and four away.

The team representing Mountain View at home was Michael Doyle, T.J. Coughlan, Tommy Malone, Garry Ryan and Anthony McCormack. The away team consisted of Joe Forristal, Bart Begley, junior, Brendan Duffin and Richard O’Hara.

This was a great achievement for the club. The next round will be against either New Ross or Wexford.

Thanks must also go to team managers, John Byrne and Jim Dunne and assistant managers, Seamus O’Brien and Willie Grace who put in a lot of work. Afterwards at a dinner reception in the clubhouse, manager John Byrne thanked visitors Gowran Park for a great match. He also thanked Edward Power, head greenkeeper for the top condition of the course. He encouraged and thanked his team on the great win and for the remainder of the competition.

Gowran Captain, Joe Farrell spoke about the match and the tough but enjoyable test that both teams had. He complimented Mountain View on the condition of the course and wished the club the best of luck in the remainder of the competition.

CHANGE: Members should note that the fourball better ball (club doubles matchplay qualifier) scheduled for weekend May 19/20 has been rescheduled for June 9/10 due to the club qualifying in other competitions.

SPRING LEAGUE: The Spring League top four positions have been finalized after the fourth round. The four teams to meet in the final which will be a singles stableford are Tommy Phelan team (443pts), Willie Grace team (430pts), Tommy Coyne team (430) and the Richie Tierney team (427). The final will be on Saturday, May 5.

The senior section of the club will be travelling to Waterford Castle on Tuesday, May 8. Senior members interested in this outing should put their name on the timesheet available in the golf shop.
