With a large field participating over the two days club captain Joe Farrell took the leading spot with a great score of 41 points. Michael Dick took the runner-up spot with the same score, losing out on the countback. Last year’s captain, Sean Kiely, took third spot one point further back.

INTER-CLUB - On the inter-club front the Jimmy Bruen panel are busy preparing for their qualifying round of the competition, which will be held in New Ross GC on Saturday.

The Barton Shield team had a good outing in Coollattin on Saturday last, the team consisted of low handicappers Paudie Lannon, Thos Farrell, Niall Kiely and Eoin Jordan. While playing extremely well, the team lost out on a qualifying spot by two strokes on the day.

WEATHER - The Open Singles competition, along with a fund-raiser for Thomastown United AFC which was scheduled for the weekend, fell victim to the inclement weather. The weather gauge gave a reading of close to 75mm of rain over a 24-hour period. The course returned to play late on Friday evening, with staff working hard to get the course back in top shape for the weekend competition.

While the Weekly Open Singles resumes this week, the Thomastown United Classic has been rescheduled for July 20 and 21.

TEAM - There will be an 18 hole three-person rumble at the club on Sunday. A timesheet is in place, with bookings to 056-7726699.

The open singles continues tomorrow (Thursday) while the club will host an open three-person team event on Sunday, July 1.

LADIES - The Ladies Miele Team will be in action in the second round of the competition when they take on Coollattin on Saturday at 3pm. The team is Sinead Kearney & Catherine O’Connor, Deirdre McCabe & Anne Farrell, Hilary & Judy Dick, Eileen Tobin & Catherine O’Driscoll. Managers are Eileen Walsh and Ger Hickey

Results, ladies 18 hole stableford, May 6: 1 Sinead Kearney (12), 37pts; 2 Gay Latchford (29), 35pts.

JUNIORS - The Summer coaching programme begins today (Wednesday). Junior/juvenile members interested in participating are asked to contact Dominic for coaching groups and times.

The Junior Matchplay draw is posted on the Junior noticeboard. All preliminary round matches must be played by Saturday.

Owing to bad weather the last round of the Girls ‘N’ Golf programme was postponed. The next session will be held on Saturday, June 23. Group A to meet at 4pm, Group B at 5pm.
