THE Gowran Park under-15 boys’ team bowed out of the Leinster inter-club Matchplay competition after a very spirited performance against Carlow in Gowran Park on Saturday.
From the start this was a high quality match and it was only on the back nine holes that the experience of the Carlow side told, as they ran out winners by four matches to one. The star performer for the Gowran side was 12-year-old Michael Carey, who was two holes down after six before turning the game round and eventually winning by 4&3.
The other team members, Matt Kenny, Phillip Dreeling, Sean Carey and Sean Roche all put in solid performances, while Danny Monks was a comfortable winner for Gowran Park in the reserve match. Other panel members were Cormac O’Driscoll, Gareth Graham and James Bergin.
Gowran Park will also be involved in the Leinster Junior Foursomes, which will be held in Enniscorthy tomorrow (Thursday). Junior coaching and competitions will be held weekly from now throughout the Summer.
