A break from the greens for some beauty tips

OVER the Bank Holiday weekend two teams from the ladies section of Castlecomer golf club were in action. On Saturday the Finn Cup team faced near neighbours Callan while on Bank holiday Monday the Miele team played The Heath.

The minor teams is facing Tullamore in Birr on June 18. The players are Mary Brophy, Nuala Mahon, Noreen Kinsella, Delia O’Donohoe and Joan Coonan.

The club mixed team are enjoying a great run. They play Waterford in the next round on June 20. The Boyne teams next fixture is against Dunmore East on June 13.

Meanwhile, congratulations to the AIB club team who qualified to play in Dun Laoghaire recently. The team was Maria Downey, Nuala Mahon and Lady Captain, Helen Dunne.

Well done to Therea Manning (1st) and Patricia Doheny (4th) in the Kilkenny Open Week ladies day competition.

There will be a night of beauty tips and so on in the clubhouse on Thursday, June 7 (8pm), presented by beautician Mary Boland. This is Mary’s second visit to the club. Her tips and demonstrations were very well received and useful on the last occasion.

The cost for the night is 7 euro. Friends and relations of members are welcome.

MEN’S OPEN: The men’s Open 18-hole singles will be played on Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10; Donal McInerney memorial Open men’s 18 hole singles Stroke, sponsor McInerney family, Saturday/Sunday, June 16 and 17.

BUGGY WINS: Congratulations to club member, Michael Buggy on winning the Senior Scratch Cup in Kilkenny golf club recently. It was a great achievement.

He won with scores of four under 67 and level par 71. He shot five birdies in the morning and four birdies in the afternoon. He capped off a great round by hitting to six feet on the last hole and rolling in the birdie.

Believe it or not, 67 was the worst score he could have had in the morning as all the birdies were within four feet.

SENIORS: Nearly 40 seniors enjoyed an outing to Mountrath golf club recently. Results - 1 Ned Kenny (19), John Shore (26), Nuala Kenny (31) 86; 2 Jimmy Byrne (9), Pa Dillon (18), Christy Lynch (22), Bob White (24) 82; 3 Diarmuid Furlong (16), Jim Tunstead (20), Christy Ryan (23), Joan Cullinane (34) 82.

There was a big welcome for new member Matt Pollock.
