The drive-in is sponsored by club professional Jimmy Bolger.

The sheet for names is on the notice board inside the bar door. The competition will be a four person team event with two scores counting. The draw will be made the previous eveing (7pm). The sheet is filling up fast. When full there will be a standby list in case people drop out.

The format will be the usual 4 person team with a hot plate served afterwards.

The course held up very well over the weekend despite the heavy rain over the last couple of days. Both weekend competitions were played.

Sunday’s competition was a four person team event. It was won by Conor Boland (5), Emmet Boland (6), Brian Spratt (9) and Ivan Dunne (14) with 70 points. They were only one over par for the 28 entries on the card. They had six bogies, but this was counter acted by birdies form Brian on the 14th,15th and 18th, Conor on the 15th and Emmet on the 14th.

The presentation of prizes will be on Saturday February 8 (5.30pm).

Saturday’s men’s cross card was won by Larry Gittens (11), Peter Ryan (17), Brendan Hogan (4) and Michael Kinchella (13) on 70 points. Brendan had birdies on the 3rd and 14th. All four contributed their quota of pars.

The senior men’s competition on Thursday was won by Noel Skehan (15), John O’Regan (18), Kevin Donohue (19) and Tom Reade (25) with 69 points. Noel was in good form with birdies on the 7th and 12th, and also five pars.

Playing partner John O’Regan had a birdie on the 12th.

Thirty four points was popular in the senior ladies competition with three teams returning the score. The best of the 34s’ was returned by Hilda Richardson, Maureen McDonald and Jane Duggan.

MEMBERSHIP: Membership renewal notices went out to members last week. Members are reminded that fees are due within four weeks of the notice of renewal. This year members have the opportunity to spread their payments over nine month by signing up for direct debit.

The details are on the reverse of the renewal notice. Members who wish to avail of the Direct Debit option must return the completed mandate by January 31. The first direct debit payments will be processed on February 15 with the final payment on October 15.

Members who were part of the Premium Credit scheme last year may continue if they so wish. All they need to do is to phone the office and inform them.

COURSE ETIQUETTE: The mats in place on the par 3s’ are to be used during the week to help preserve the tee boxes.

Members should also note that caddy cars and trolleys are not to be brought inside the ropes surrounding the greens. The ropes are there to protect the surrounds of the greens.

Players are requested to refrain from scooping the ball out of the holes with their putters and damaging the collars. All players should remind their playing partners to comply with these rules. Members are also requested to continue repairing pitch marks and divots.

The course staff have commenced work on reshaping some of the bunkers and regrading the faces of others. As a result some holes may be closed over the coming weeks. The 14th hole will be restricted this week as two new fairway bunkers are under construction.

WINTER SPECIAL: A Golf Winter Special is available Monday to Friday until March 31. Green fee, plus hot plate of the day and tea/coffee, costs €35.

SNOOKER: The entry for the snooker singles has closed. The draw is posted on the men’s notice board. All participants are requested to keep to the dates for the various rounds. First round is due to be completed by Friday, February 7.

BRIDGE: Bridge lessons continue on Monday (7.45pm).

New Ross

The weather was kind to the seniors as the rain held off until after their outing at New Ross GC on Thursday last.

With placing everywhere in operation there was the chance of some good scores and the target of 90 points was surpassed and equalled by the three winning teams.

The trio of Tony Harford (13), Charlie Collins (16) and Pat Traynor (17) carded a winning score of 92pts (86+6). One point behind were Willie Kelly (17), Richie Byrne (18), Michael Long (21) and Les Jastrebski(27). The third prize went to Denis Kirwan (11), Michael Gannon (15), Jamesie Wallace (15) and Pat Ryan (19) with 90pts.

Nearest the pin prizes went to John Browne on the ninth hole and Fr Jim Curtis on the 11th. Newcomer Joe Morrissey was also welcomed to the ranks. The draw for this week’s competition is at 10.40am tomorrow (Thursday).
