THE Dan Bolger Inter-Society Challenge 2011 was held in Gowran Park on Friday. Societies from Castlecomer, Kilmanagh, Bennettsbridge, Graignamanagh, Thomastown, Ballyhale and Stoneyford flocked to the course for the 3pm shotgun start.
After a competitive afternoon’s golf Thomastown, who were captained by Sean Kiely, regained the title with a combined score of 205 points to beat Kate O’Grady’s from Stoneyford into second place on 202 points.
Kerri Bolger, secretary of the organising committee, thanked all who helped to organise the day while winning captain Sean Kiely thanked all the captains and their teams for their support.
The presentation of prizes was held after an enjoyable meal in the Rooftop Restaurant.
MATCHPLAY – The final of the club singles matchplay competition was held on Sunday.
From a starting field of 64 competitors Bob Howatt, along with junior member Philip Dreeling, made it to the final. On the day Bob played superior golf to earn a 6&5 win.
Bob played great golf all season, beating Gearoid Kennedy, P.J. Dreeling, Terry Kerschbaum, Richie Lowry and Joe Lannon en route to the final.
FOURBALL - The Club Fourball competition is heading to the final stages with one set of semi-finalists known. Eoin Jordan and Conor Bolger are ready to take on Joe Lannon and Michael Delahunty, while Enda and Nicky Cleere are waiting to meet the winners of the last quarter-final.
