Yes, it’s that time of the year again when everybody looks forward to two weeks of super tennis, the ‘barbie’ and some great fun. The time has arrived for the Cualfield’s Super Valu inter-firms tournament.
They tournament will be played between Monday, May 13 and Saturday, May 25. Kilkenny tennis club have invited other sports clubs, firms and other organisation to get involved and enter a team. There is room for the good, the bad and just about everyone.
The entry fee is €50 per team, which includes admission and food at the inter-firms barbecue on Friday, May 17. The ‘barbie’ will be followed by a live music session (9pm to 1am).
Entries should be submitted to the clubhouse by 5pm on Wednesday, May 8. The club has thanked Caulfield’s Super Valu for their sponsorship and continued support of the tournament.
A fantastic menu is available every night during the tournament and even if people are not playing, what better way to pass an hour or two than by relaxing inside the cosy clubhouse. All enquiries should be made to the Tournament Director at 086-8645165.
On Friday night another excellent American tournament was organised, and there was a good turn out. This event is proving to be a very popular night and is a great way for non-members to integrate themselves into the club in a relaxed and friendly
way. Anybody interested in playing should put their name on the notice board in the tennis club or text Brian Doyle at 086-8714941.
Twenty eight players participated and two very competitive sections were formed.
Section 1 was closely contested with John Woodcock and taking the spoils. Runners up were Marita Comerford and Kevin Browne.
Section 2 produced some excellent matches. The standard of tennis was a joy to watch. The winners were Billy Rafter and Emma O Keeffe. Runners up were Nollaig Cotter and Charlotte Boote.
Thanks was extended to Brian Doyle for putting together another super night, and it was well done to all who took part. The American tournament is back on Friday. Those interested should get their names down early as places are limited to 32.
All courts are booked from 7.30 to 9.30pm.
The finals of the Singles Leagues are set for Saturday (7.30pm). Good luck to those who made it to the next round.
