Scratch Cup success, hole in one and a ten-year bash

The eventual winner was Michael Morrissey, Carlow (10) with a score of 76 followed by club member Fergus Bolger (10) who just pipped fellow Gowran Park golfer Luke Kelly to second place on a count-back.

The competition also had a high note for Jim Rhatigan (Kilkenny), who had a hole in one on the ninth – his first in over 40 years of golf!

TEN YEARS - Gowran Park will celebrate the tenth birthday of the golf course with a special weekend of competitions.

To mark the tenth anniversary of the Jeff Howes-designed course, which opened on the August Bank Holiday weekend in 2001, the club will host a series of singles competitions from Friday, July 29 to Monday, August 1. Green fees will be E10 all weekend, with daily prizes as well as an overall prize, up for grabs.

CAPTAIN’S PRIZE - Club member Lee Graham won a big prize on a trip up North recently. Graham, who hails from Co Down, scooped the Captain’s Prize at Hollywood - the home club of Rory McIlroy - with an impressive score of 65 nett.

Members are reminded that the alternate day for next week’s competition is Saturday.

The Club Singles Matchplay must be played by Sunday. All outstanding matches must be arranged immediately.

The ladies Miele team will take on Wicklow in the quarter-finals of the competition on Tuesday.
