Tony and Kevin O’Driscoll are the foursomes Matchplay club winners after a fantastic run through the competition. The O’Driscolls’ qualified comfortably and after beating Sean Green and Mark Davis in the opening round they then beat Simon McCarthy and Ollie Power in the quarter-finals.

Nicky Morrisey and Liam Brennan were the winners opponents in the semi finals while in the other semi final James Logue and Martin Maher beat Mick Fitzpatrick and Brian Cullen to set up a final with the O’Driscolls’.

The final was a tight affair with Tony and Kevin coming out on top after a great battle. Congratulations to Kevin and Tony for a great win in what is the most difficult format of the game.

Scratch Matchplay: Richie Condon captured the Scratch matchplay to cap an excellent year. Richie has been extremely consistent all year and hard fought victories over Brian Doheny, Ryan O’Dwyer and John Carroll to win this ultra competitive competition for the first time.

This is always a huge task to win this and congrats for an excellent performance in this competition.

Mount Carmel Classic: There was an excellent response to the Mount Carmel Classic over the weekend with an excellent performance from the winners. Johnny Butler, this year’s Captain’s prize winner, led team mates John Kirwan, Martin Sommers and Marty Parker to amass 99 points to win by a shot.

Declan Roberts, Eddie Ryan, Brendan Fennelly and Denis Barry were second with 98 points while Tommy Minogue, Dick Minogue, Rick Burke and Ollie Power finished third with an excellent total of 97 points. Nashie Rice worked tirelessly to organise this event and is thanked for his commitment to the worthiest of causes. Thanks to sponsors, players and all who made the weekend such a sucess.

Open Singles: The Open Singles final will be held on Saturday with all who have qualified being contacted via text with details of their time on the timesheet. All qualifiers will also be treated to a meal following their game and if anyone has been uncontacted and believe they qualified they should contact the club immediately.

There are in excess of 80 golfers qualified for this finale for what is a big day in the clubs calendar. It has been a hugely successful series this summer having broken all records in terms of participation and there will be a winter version of this competition the final details of which will be finalised soon.

Hopefully the weather will be kinder than this weekend when Tom Kenny fired an excellent 66 to win this monthly medal, sponsored by Supervalue Callan, and a large cut of Golfer of the Year points. Second was Brendan Wall who also shot a 66 while Hugh Fitzpatrick continued his excellent form by winning the gross with 75. Paul Cunningham played solidly to gain third place in wretched conditions.

Membership Offer: Callan Golf Club have made a membership option available to new or lapsed members. For 740 Euro for men or 745 Euro for ladies (the extra 5 Euro is a GUI issue) anyone who takes up this option will be a member from September 2011 until January 2013.
