The regional finals of the Ladies ILGU competitions were in Enniscorthy on Saturday. The Castlecomer Minor Cup team were drawn against Waterford Castle. The team, who had spent many hours practicing there, put up a brave fight but were defeated.

Mary Brophy was first out and won on the 18th with a terrific long putt. Nuala Mahon and Noreen Kinsella were beaten on the 17th after very close matches. Joan Coonan was unlucky to come up against an on-form player from Waterford Castle.

Delia O’Donohue was two holes up when called in. The girls all played their best and with a little luck could have been going to the All-Ireland finals. Well done to the caddies who have been consistent throughout the competition, Ann Ring, Jean Jackman, Kathleen Ryan, Patricia Doheny and Jacinta Culliton, and to managers Kathleen Ryan and Claire O’Connor, who put so much into the organisation of the team.
