Sunday’s men’s competition was a 14 hole singles. The weather in the morning was bitter with sleet showers between 9 and 10 o’clock. A good

few of the early starters abandoned their rounds on the 4th and 6th holes.

The weather improved after that and scoring was good despite the soft conditions. The winner was Roger Curran (14) with a score of 34 points. Roger started his round with fie bogies but then proceeded to record nine successive pars for a round of five over par. The runner-up was P.J. Martin (9) with 32 points. P.J. was level par for the opening 11 holes but a double bogey on the 16th and a bogey on 17th left him three over par for his round and gave him a score of 32 points.

John McCarron (15) was third with 31 points. The gross was won by Eddie Power (+1) with 31 gross points. Eddie was three under par gross for his round with the help of five birdies. The presentation of prizes will be on Saturday, February 23 (5.30pm).

Following on from the message in last week’s notes the Competition Committee have decided that anyone deleting off the Sunday timesheet after midnight on Friday or failing to turn up on the day will be liable to pay the entry fee for the competition. The Ladies Committee are looking at implementing this rule also as regards their Sunday morning slots.

Another incident occurred on Sunday where a line on the timesheet used their slot to play casual golf and did not enter the competition. This will not be allowed going forward. As was stated in last week’s notes, time slots are at a premium at this time with the short days. Members should show courtesy to their fellow members and not abuse timesheets.

Players are reminded to check the Winter handicap adjustments if they feature in the first three places in the Sunday competitions to ensure

they are playing off the correct handicap.
