Winter League golfers brave weather

FIFTY-THREE golfers braved the elements last weekend to complete the first round of the 2011 Winter League in stormy and wet conditions at Mountain View GC.

FIFTY-THREE golfers braved the elements last weekend to complete the first round of the 2011 Winter League in stormy and wet conditions at Mountain View GC.

Winter rules were brought in as the bulk of the 66-strong field played in the bad weather. Despite the poor conditions some great individual scores were recorded.

T.J. Coughlan (13) and John Coffey (19) led the field with scores of 43 and 42 points respectively. With the two best scores counting, the Harrington Team are on top of the league table with 82 points. Team McIlroy are their nearest challengers on 80 points.

Detailed results are posted in the clubhouse and on www.mviewgolf.com. The second round of the Winter League will be held this weekend, with the best three scores on each team to count.

SINGLES - Mountain View will host an open singles stableford competition over the Bank Holiday Weekend. Running from Saturday to Monday, the competition is open to ladies and men (visitors E15, members E5 with a fourball option of E40). There will be light refreshments for participants. Handicap limit is 20 for men and 26 for ladies, with GUI swipe cards to be used.
