Galmoy youngsters show their class

The games of squash and racquetball have gone from strength to strength in Galmoy in recent years.

The games of squash and racquetball have gone from strength to strength in Galmoy in recent years.

This is mainly due to the staging of local team leagues throughout the winter months with each league taking five weeks to complete.

As a consequence, many of the juvenile players have excelled at the games with the result that some of them recently took part in All-Ireland competitions in racquetball.

In Fethard, Co Tipperary recently the All-Ireland B competitions for players aged from under-18 down to under-8 were staged. Galmoy players won six cups along a number of runners-up medals.

At under-8 level, Daniel Hanrahan won the All-Ireland B cup, while Gearóid Phelan won a silver medal.

At under-12 level, Conor Drennan won the All-Ireland B cup.

At under-14 level, Oisín Phelan won the All-Ireland B cup.

At under-16 level, Kieran Phelan won the All-Ireland B cup.

In that final he beat fellow Galmoy player, Sean Phelan in the best of three games.

In the girls competition, Mary Ellen Phelan won the All-Ireland B cups at under-12 and under-14 level.

Furthermore, Billy Drennan won the All-Ireland A cup in Wexford at under-10 level in 2012 and he is under-age again in 2013.
