Success for Rangers, survival for ’Booters

SILVERWARE and survival were the order of the day as two clubs celebrated a Super Sunday in the Kilkenny & District League.

SILVERWARE and survival were the order of the day as two clubs celebrated a Super Sunday in the Kilkenny & District League.

River Rangers got their hands on the spoils after beating Thomastown United B to land the Division Two Cup at a weather-beaten Derdimus on Sunday afternoon. A goal in either half, including a cracking free-kick, saw the Kilmanagh outfit march to a 2-0 win.

Earlier in the day Derrick Kenny’s Freebooters B were also left in a happy mood after they sealed their Premier Division status. The Blues went into the final game of the season against Deen Celtic knowing that a win and nothing less would do to keep them up. Locked at 2-2 with 15 minutes to go things looked grim for the city side, but two late goals saw them leapfrog East End United and book their place in the top flight for next season.
