Sherwin scores soccer scholarship

Kilkenny girl Lucy Sherwin has been awarded a sports scholarship to study in DCU. The award is in recognition of her achievements at both national and international levels.

Having represented South Leinster at under-15, 16 and 18 grades. Following national trials and fitness tests in 2012, Lucy was co-opted onto the Irish Under 19 International Women’s squad for the year. Her application for a DCU scholarship was supported by the FAI national coach Dave Connell, who rates her as “one of the up and coming stars of Women’s soccer in this country”.

Sherwin, who is currently playing in the Bus Eireann Women’s National League with high-flying Wexford Youths, cut her teeth playing football with Evergreen Schoolboys. She made history when she won an under-13 schoolboys league medal with the Kells Road club.
