A CITY derby, a top flight clash and two teams who are in the hunt for a league title – the last 16 of the McCalmont Cup has drawn up plenty of interesting contests.
Top of the pile is the Premier Division meeting of Fort Rangers and Freebooters A. The only all-top flight meeting, ’Booters needed spot kicks to see off Bridge United A, while Fort put three past Brookville.
Meanwhile Thomastown United A will have to put their title hopes to one side when they take on another team gunning for the Division One crown. United, who beat Deen Celtic last Sunday, will host fellow contenders Clover United A in the last 16. The Rathdowney side have played all their league games already and have just Cup matches left in their schedule.
Callan United, who beat Evergreen A in the last round, will travel to play Orchard Rovers. Other sides hoping to match Callan and cause a Cup upset include St Anne’s, who will travel to Bennettsbridge to take on East End United, while AC Kilkenny A host Evergreen C in the only all-city meeting.
The games will be played on Easter weekend.
