The New Year got off to a quieter start than expected for Kilkenny’s junior soccer teams.

The New Year got off to a quieter start than expected for Kilkenny’s junior soccer teams.

With nationwide storm conditions predicted for Sunday, the Kilkenny & District League made the call to scrap all but one of the games scheduled for the local leagues.

“With such adverse weather expected it was a common sense decision to call off Sunday’s games,” said League chairman John Corrigan.

The only local game that has survived is the Premier Division meeting between Evergreen A and Fort Rangers on Sunday at 11am.

Away from local competitions two other games are still expected to go ahead on Sunday. Top of the list is the meeting of Freshford Town and Douglas Hall B in the FAI Junior Cup. Kick-off in Woodsgift is down for 2pm.

The Kilkenny & District League’s youth team are also down to play the Waterford League in Ozier Park tomorrow (Sunday) at 2pm. That game is subject to a 10am pitch inspection.
