A NEW season of schoolboys’ inter-league soccer will begin this weekend as Kilkenny get ready for a double-header in Kildare.

The Cats will send two teams to Naas on Saturday for the opening games of the under-12 and under-13 competitions. The under-12s will be first into action against the hosts at the Naas Sports Complex at 1pm, with Ronnie Grace’s under-13s kicking-off at 2.30pm.

“This is a good side,” Grace said of his squad. “We finished last season well, winning the Bunclody Tournament, so hopefully we can get a good start to this campaign with a win.”

Both teams have been grouped with the North East Counties, South Dublin and the Midlands. Further rounds of their competitions will see the Cats host the NEC and SDFL in March before travelling to the Midlands in April.

The Kilkenny under-15s will play their entire inter-league group games in a blitz format. They will take on Wexford, the NEC and Kildare over the weekend of March 30/31 in Wicklow.

The under-16s will host the Leinster section of their inter-league at the beginning of March. They will play the NEC and North Dublin on March 2, Kildare on March 3 and the Midlands and Wexford on March 9.

The Kilkenny under-13s will train tomorrow (Thursday) in Derdimus at 5.15pm. The under-12s and under-13s will travel by bus to Naas on Saturday, leaving the Water Shed at 10.45am.
