Reid final

T.J. Reid has scored 1-3 in the first half of the Kilkenny senior hurling county final

Ballyhale Shamrocks 1-7, O'Loughlin Gaels 0-8

Ballyhale Shamrocks hold the upper hand at half-time in today’s Kilkenny senior hurling final.

It took the Shamrocks three minutes to hit the opening score of the game, a free from T.J. Reid, but they moved into a commanding lead when Reid went on a weaving sixth minute solo run before popping the sliotar past O’Loughlin’s netminder Stephen Murphy.

Ballyhale led from that point on, but a series of needless frees allowed O’Loughlin’s to get back into the game. Mark Bergin didn’t waste the opportunity to get on the scoreboard, helping himself to six points from placed balls.

The opening half has been a tame affair, but with T.J. Reid bagging 1-3 (two frees) it’s advantage Shamrocks at the interval.

SCORERS: Ballyhale - T.J. Reid (1-3, 0-2 frees); Bob Aylward, Mark Aylward, Henry Shefflin, Colin Fennelly (0-1 each). O'Loughlin Gaels - Mark Bergin (0-6, all frees); Paddy Butler, Sammy Johnston (0-1 each)
