All the news from Kilkenny golf club

Members of Kilkenny golf club have been requested to take due care and attention while the new pipe laying is taking place on the course.

There are some holes left open while fittings are being replaced and members are asked to be extra vigilant. The course toilet is out of commission at the moment, as there is no flow of water to it.

It will be up and running soon as the pipework is completed.

ROPES: Members will have noticed the erection of additional ropes and stanchions around the fringes of several greens.

This is to help protect these areas during the Winter months. Golfers are requested not to remove any of them during play.

Should they interfere with your swing and/or stance then Rule 24:2 applies (immovable obstruction). A player should go to his nearest point of relief and drop within one club length, not nearer the hole.

Having taken relief, if a player's ball hits the rope/stanchions, this is considered to be a 'rub of the green' and the  ball must be played from where it finishes.

No further relief is granted, unless the ropes/ stanchion are interfering with his/her swing/stance, then rule 24.2 applies.

Players are requested to enter the greens via the openings provided and not to lift or step on the ropes to gain access.

Members wishing to play on mid-week days prior to 9am should commence from the 1st tee.

This is to give the course staff an opportunity to get their work done on the first few holes.

It is imperative that all golf prior to 9am  commences from the first tee.

If members commence from the 3rd or 5th tees it is very difficult for the course staff to get their work done.
