Kilkenny score good win over Borris

Kilkenny golf club scored a resounding win over Borris in the first round of the Barton Cup.
In tricky conditions, they won four of the games with one halved.
Three of the matches were decided on the 18th. One was called in on the 18th and the fifth ended 4/3 in favour of Kilkenny.
In the away leg Derek O’Gorman and Rob Kearney secured victory with an excellent par on 18.
Dermot Doyle and Gus Carey were second out and won 4/3.
Brendan Power and Patrick O’Shea, having been three up, were level after 17 but a great par on 18 secured a win.
In the home leg Anthony Cleere and Pat Collins had to fight all the way, eventually winning on the 18th.
The final match of Paddy Crotty and Frank Dalton were playing the 18th when called in.
Next up Kilkenny will have home advantage against Callan on or before April 17.
Managers Liam Cody and P.J. O’Reilly thanked the team for their efforts. Also, they thanked Cyril Hughes, Captain Borris GC and Team Manager Mick Hanrahan for the welcome shown Kilkenny and for the sportsmanship shown.
In the JB Carr competition for golfers over 60, Kilkenny start their campaign on Wednesday, April 12 (3.15pm) against Callan.
Kilkenny will have all five foursome matches at home.
BOOKING: People should note that only Full Adult Members are entitled to book time-slots on the Sunday morning competition timesheet before 1pm.
After that the timesheet is open to all categories of members who are entitled to play in the weekend competitions.
Ladies and gentlemen have been reminded to exercise care when entering the weekly club singles competitions. Too many members are inadvertently pressing the wrong entry box (blue for gents; pink for ladies) after swiping their membership card.
The pace of play, especially on Sundays, is coming in for scrutiny too.
The Committee have received complaints in relation to the length of time being taken by some golfers.
OLD HABITS: It has become apparent to the Committee that the old habit of some members deleting complete lines from the competition time sheet is creeping back in, thus depriving interested members the opportunity of playing in the competition.
Members who continue to abuse the system will be requested to pay the relevant entry fee.
COURSE NEWS: It is extremely disappointing to see golfers (male) continue to ignore the request of the club that all divots should be back filled with the sand mix provided.
Last Friday every tee box had a similar, recent, tear on it. Not one of them had been filled with sand, despite the availability of a sand box within easy reach.
Equally disappointing was the fact that the playing partners refused to say or do anything about this issue.
The club reminds that it is the responsibility of all members to help maintain the course in the best possible condition.
