Poet to speak

Felispeaks in Kilkenny on Saturday

On Saturday the Rhyme Rag writers’ group presents a unique poetry event at the Arts Office.
They will host FeliSpeaks, an exciting new spoken word artist, for an afternoon performance followed by interview and discussion with the young writers.
FeliSpeaks received a standing ovation following her performance at the Young Blood event at the National Concert Hall.
She has since performed at Repeal the 8th benefit at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin Fringe Festival, theatre show Riot at Vicar Street, RTE Radio 1’s Culture Night event at Dublin Castle, Body & Soul Festival and Electric Picnic in Stradbally.
Born in Nigeria and raised in Longford, FeliSpeaks is working on a dream to change the face of poetry in Ireland. “I am so happy to hear of this writing group as I didn’t have one when I was growing up” FelisSpeaks says of her Kilkenny visit: “Young writers are an important group to encourage and inspire.”
Celebrating different influences and arts forms, FeliSpeaks emerged from the college poetry slam circuit. In her work she draws on personal experiences of love and life and the social concerns of young people.
FeliSpeaks performance, followed by interview and discussion, is at the Arts Office Gallery, 5 Dean Street, Irishtown on Saturday, at 3.00pm.
Admission is free but booking is required. Email writersgroup@rhymerag.net or text 087 737 7556.
