A Kilkenny woman hit the jackpot on Sunday, taking home €250,000 from the National Lottery’s 25th Anniversary Prize Giveaway Draw in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham.
Margaret Martin (43) from McAuley Place in Kilkenny City scooped the top prize on the day, to the rapturous delight of her husband Thomas, who joined her on stage. RTE’s Marty Whelan was helped by Jedward in hosting the draw.
The Martins were not the only success story from Kilkenny on the day. Mary Brennan Conway from Castlecomer won €5,000, and Breda Coll from the city won a holiday worth €5,000.
A total prize fund of €1 million was shared by 100 winners from across the country in the draw.
The winners won their place at the draw throughout the month of August when, as part of the National Lottery’s 25th Anniversary celebrations, players were invited to send in their non-winning tickets. On four consecutive Fridays, a preliminary draw took place in National Lottery offices. All 100 winners were guaranteed to win a prize ranging in value from €250,000 to €5,000.
The winners and their guests enjoyed an exciting red carpet event in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. They were treated to a champagne reception along with a three course lunch prior to the draw.
Twenty-five years ago the National Lottery was launched in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. Since then, over €6 billion Euro has been won by National Lottery players while over €4 billion has been raised for good causes across Ireland.
