A DECENT YEAR - Cloneen junior hurling team had a vastly improved turn of form in 2012, Having had to endure a play off to avoid relegation a year earlier they had a good year in the league winning their division and reaching the final. Despite continuing to lose key players to emigration their was a considerable improvement in the quality of hurling bringing winning performances over some leading teams such as Windgap, Bennettsbridge and Lisdowney only losing once that to Barrow Rangers. This was put down to the ongoing efforts to promote the underage structures. A couple of Cloneen players got close to county panels with Dean Shortall, Brian Cahill and Gary Delaney being recognised by minor and under 21 county mentors. The schoolboys and juveniles continue to show a great interest with good numbers taking part. To facilitate the promotion of games at under age level, Cloneen got together with Railyard Football Club to form a single GAA club in the parish under the title of Cloneen / Railyard Bord na nOg. This club has registered separately promoting both codes and have registered a new colour scheme which incorporates the green of Cloneen and the red of Railyard. Camogie has become established with a growing interest and enthusiasm among local girls.
