Heritage Week in Kilkenny was hailed as a great success as it drew to a close last Sunday.
“National Heritage Week has been a fantastic success this year. We have seen a record number of events taking place during the week and have reports of extremely high attendance levels at events nationwide,” said Michael Starrett, CEO of the Heritage Council, whose headquarters is located on the grounds of St Canice’s Cathedral.
Over 70 events took place around Kilkenny city and county as part of Heritage Week. For many families it was the last week before going back to school, and the fine weather added to the enjoyment of outdoor activities.
“It’s been great to see so many people out enjoying events during the week. Heritage Week has now become a festival that people look forward to at the end of the summer,” said Dearbhala Ledwidge, heritage officer with Kilkenny County Council.
