St. Canice’s: David Glynn is player of the year

AGM-The AGM of Dicksboro GAA Club took place in the clubhouse last Sunday afternoon. Chairman, Eddie Holohan, welcomed everyone and called for a minutes silence for deceased members. Eddie pointed out the ongoing improvements that took place during the year in the clubs facilities and our plans for 2013 and thanked all the volunteers who maintain our grounds to such a high standard. Joe Phelan, who was stepping down from Grounds Chairman after six years in the position, was singled out for special praise. Eddie then spoke of the work being done at juvenile level and pointed out that our under 14, 16 and minor teams competed in their respective Championship and/or League final and this success would eventually translate onto our senior team in years to come. He stated that the great work being done by team mentors could not be over emphasised. Events crucial to the social fabric of the club such as our first Summer Camp, Lá na gClub and Summer Employment Scheme were highlighted. Eddie then turned his attention to our main sponsors, Grassland and Aut Even Hospital and the fundraising activities undertaken by the finance committee during the year such as the Cookery night, Greyhound Benefit night and Golf Classic. Eddie’s comments concerning those that were picked to represent Kilkenny at various age groups were echoed by Club Secretary, Pat Moylan and a special word was reserved for Cillian Buckley. One of the highlights of the year of course was the Senior County Final and while we lost, it showed the real progress being made in the club. In summary, Eddie set out our plans for 2013. Pat Moylan, in his comprehensive Secretary’s report, went down through all our teams activities during 2012 from under 6 to minor and all our adult teams. He also sang the praises of all the team mentors and members of the various committees that help run the club. He stated that 2012 was a year of real progress. Seamus Rochford, Club Treasurer, went through the club’s Financial Statement, which was presented in a very professional manner. Thanks to his stewardship the club will go into 2013 in a healthy financial position but development works to the clubhouse will be a challenge to all members. Games Chairman, Frank Morrissey, had the task of announcing our Player of the Year, which was David Glynn. He described David as being an inspirational figure both on and off the field and a leader in the dressing room. Due to study commitments, David could not be in attendance and the Patsy Lacey perpetual Trophy was presented to his father, John, by Niall Lacey. John said David wished to thank the mentors and members and that he was accepting the trophy on behalf of all his teammates. Officers elected for 2013 were, Eddie Holohan(Chairman), Jim Murphy(Vice Chairman), Pat Moylan(Secretary), Seamus Rochford(Treasurer), Development Chairman(Simon Walton), Niall O’Gorman(Registrar), Games Chairman(Frank Morrissey), PRO(Edmund Nolan), Juvenile Chairman(Pat Carroll), Grounds Chairman(Mick Byrne), Irish Officer(Sean Moore). Under 16’s-A depleted ‘Boro team served up some excellent football in the first round of the championship, held in Palmerstown last Saturday. Teamwork was the order of the day with more than one of our goals starting in our own full back line, the ball being passed with precision before ending in the Inistioge net. Two ‘Boro goals in each half were telling as the Rower never looked like breaking through our very solid defence. James Stephens will provide the opposition this weekend in the quarter final. Dicksboro 4-8 Rower Inistioge 0-9. Panel: Jim Dollard, Aaron Purcell, John Hanrick, Conor Doheny, Billy Rowe Kieran Ryan, Ronán Butler, Andrew Gaffney, Corey Cahill, Alan Phelan, Jason Carroll, Liam Walsh, Bill Sheehan, William Oakes, Robert Crotty, Aidan Nolan, Oisin Gough.
