St. Canice’s: Great win for under 16 hurlers of the ‘Boro

Under 16’s- The ‘Boro under 16 team had a great win last Saturday over a fancied James Stephens side in the Roinn ‘A’ League Final, held in Conahy. This was the same Village side that had won the County Championship Final in September and so defeating them was no mean feat. Both teams found it hard to get into any rhythm in the first half, each team scoring five points each and of the ten in total, seven were from frees. The second half also started slowly, each team trading points up to the ninth minute and it looked like we were in for a low scoring game, a game that could be decided by a point or two. All that changed as this young ‘Boro side upped the tempo and bulged the net twice in two minutes to take command. Another ‘Boro point followed before we got a response from the Village who accumulated four points without reply. A late point from the ‘Boro sealed the day. Dicksboro 2-8 James Stephens 0-10. Our Roinn ‘C’ team were not as lucky in their Shield Final held on Sunday against Emeralds as they were defeated by 1-4 to 0-11. Thank you to the Emeralds Club on providing unexpected but very welcome refreshments on the day. Dicksboro Under 16 panel: John Hanrick, Aaron Malone, Jim Dollard, Conor Doheny, Aidan Nolan, Corey Cahill(Capt), Ronan Butler, Chris Kavanagh, Mark Slater, Andrew Gaffney, Jason Carroll, Edward Moylan, Robbie Murphy, Jamie Byrne, Alan Phelan, Gavin Byrne, Kieran Ryan, Bill Sheehan, Evan Carroll, Aaron Purcell, Billy Rowe, Ormond Morrissey, Cormac Buggy, Robert Crotty, Brian Power, Thomas Kenny, Peter Lynch, Darragh Lynch, Kieran Dunne, Panos Brennan, Cian Butler, William Oakes, Liam Walsh, Conor Fitzpatrick ( inj), Gaby Lapuste.

Under 21-Our under 21 team really never got going in a disappointing game from the ‘Boro point of view against Lisdowney on Saturday in the hurling championship. Despite not performing up to our abilities, we were still only one point adrift when the final whistle blew but that was poor consolation to this talented ‘Boro side.
