This Sunday sees the annual Castlegannon Show taking place at Knockmoylan, half way between Ballyhale and Mullinavat.
As in previous years, this great family day out is being held for the benefit of the Carlow Kilkenny Homecare Team, for whom the show has raised over e10,000 in the last two years alone.
This year’s show includes horse and pony jumping competitions, including South Leinster League and Glencarraig Lady League qualifiers, horse showing classes, vintage tractors display, leading rein competitions, dog show, children’s sports, music, bouncing castle, side shows and other similar attractions.
The show is based on a considerable voluntary effort from families in the local Knockmoylan, Ballyhale and Mullinavat area. As the show chairman Michael Phelan says: “You can’t run a show like Castlegannon for 38 years without help from a lot of different people, all of whom are doing so because of the charity involved and their interest in giving a good family day out”.
Michael is very thankful for the support that the show gets from local sponsors, who he says “have been very supportive to the show right from the beginning and all involved hope to make this year’s event as successful as other years”.
Show jumping competitions start at 10 am, horse show classes at 11am, leading rein at 2pm, dog show at 3pm and children’s sports mid-afternoon.
Event details and prize lists are available from the show secretary, John Dempsey, at 051 898949 or 087 9278391.
