Presentation Secondary School’s fourth year team ‘Bolt Racing’ are through to national final of the F1inschools competition.
The school have been proud participants in the competition for the past few years. This competition involves designing a small wooden car using a Computer Aided Design (CAD), Solid Works. There are many different aspects to the competition, for example: to create a website, a presentation, 20 page portfolio, logo, uniform, display stand, to get sponsorship, to paint and sand-paper the car and communicate within the team.
The team ‘Bolt Racing’ consist of five fourth year students: Rachel Doyle - Team Manager, Carol Murphy and Katie Mulrooney - Design and Manufacturing Engineers, Eva McMyler - Communications Manager and Niamh Kennedy - Graphic Design and Resources Manager.
All had their own jobs assigned to us and update our team regularly at our meetings through out the week. The name ‘Bolt Racing’ was inspired by Usain Bolt- the fastest man in the world, and the nuts and bolts you would find in a car.
on the March 19, Bolt Racing travelled up to Griffith College in Dublin for the Regional Qualifier. Throughout the day the car was scrutinised, raced, the presentation given, the display stand examined and reaction time taken. At the end of the day Bolt Racing left with two awards for best website and best engineered car, a teacher with the fastest reaction time taken and the go ahead to Nationals which will take place on April 26.
