EUROPE HONOURS IRELAND - It is with great excitement that it has been announced that the 51st Eupopean Bridge Championships will take place in Ireland at the City West Hotel, Saggart, Co. Dublin, from June 12 to 23. We view the staging of this prestigious event as a time of celebration of our game and an opportunity to showcase to Europe our efficiency combined with our world-renowned hospitality. Many Bridge Players will remember our last superb staging of the 1991 event in Killarney.
Why did the Organisation decide to undertake these Championships? It will enhance the public perception of Bridge – as a contributor to the country. It will demonstrate to our Government that Bridge is an International Sport and should be recognised as such by our Sports Council. It will bring substantial tourist business to Ireland from 1000+ people attending from abroad – past experience has shown they return to visit again in the future. It will give our Bridge Players the opportunity to experience at first hand the excitement of a major championship. In conjunction with these championships, The Contract Bridge Association of Ireland and The Irish Bridge Union, will stage open pairs daily so that all our Bridge Players will be able to say to their grandchildren – “I played at the City West European Championships in 2012!!”
BRIDGE CLUB SECRETARIES - Please notify your members of this wonderful event where they can view the best of Europe competing and learn from their play and defence. Then enjoy their own game at the championships!
