Well done to Siobhan and Lucy O’Neill, Tourtane

MUSICAL TALENT-“Well done to Siobhan and Lucy O’Neill, Tourtane who came first playing their Irish music instruments in the CCE Fleadh Cheoil in the city last weekend. Siobhan is also a member in the newly formed U-18 “Timpeall Cnoc” ceili band who are off to the Leinster Fleadh also.” Timpeall Cnoc-ceili band are made up of 10 youngsters aged 13-17 year old from “around the mountain” - all live within view of Knock\Spink White Mountain. Members are from Clogh, Spink, Abbeyleix, Ballyraggett, Lisdowney and Raheen.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICATIONS-Two Moneenroe Groups have been successful in the Amenity Grants Scheme 2012 administered by Kilkenny County Council. Cllr. Maurice Shortall says Moneenroe Community Council have been awarded €1,000 while Old School Crescent Residents Association received €300.BARBEQUE

BBQ-The community barbeque organised by Clogh Community Council at Ryan’s of Clogh proved a very enjoyable event despite the weather. It was well attended and a fun night of good food , music and craic was the verdict of all. The Community Council announced that an open night to consider the formation of a walking club will be held in July at the track.The purpose of tis event is o allow the people using the track to air their views on the long term maintainance and organisation of the track. Among other events in the Community Council plans are a sponsored climb of Croagh Patrick on the first weekend in September and the highly successful Fun Day at the Plots in August.is once again on the agenda. This will be followed by a musical evening in Kavanaghs. There are also plans in hand for a seven aside soccer tournament.

handball - Clogh Handball Club was busy on the juvenile front recently. In county championship Clogh had wins in the GU13S Sorcha Delaney, U12S Ciaran Cooney, U13S Aidan Barry, U14S Shane Dunne, U15S Padraig Cooney and GU14S Cora Delaney and Caitriona Lawlor. In the Irish 60x30 doubles Nationals recently Shane Dunne and Ciaran Cooney were beaten in 13 and under final, Mary Phelan and Ciaran Mahon were beaten in Girls 19 and under final, Aishling Maher and Denise Love were beaten in Girls 19 and under plate final and Brian Mahon and John Walsh (Mullinavat) won the 17 and under plate final.

The club is training hard for the upcoming Feile in Dublin on 5-6 July, with 3 boys teams and 1 girls team taking part. The boys are in Division 1-2 of 60x30 in Na Fianna and the team is Shane Dunne, Marc Purcell, Aidan Barry and Ciaran Cooney,mentored by Brendan Hosey,and a second team of Eoin Regan, Cathal Barry, Michael Doyle, Thomas Brennan and Kyle Dunne are in 40x20 Division 4 in City West, mentored by Colm Love. A third team of Billy O Neill, Jack Buggy, Jamie Maher and Conor Clarke are in 40x20 Division 6 in Erin’s Isle, mentored by Michael Maher and the girls team of Cora Delaney, Caitriona Lawlor, Patricia Buggy and Sorcha Delaney are in 40x20 Divison 2 in DCU, mentored by Billy Love. Shane Dunne is representing Kilkenny in the 60x30 feile skills and Caitriona Lawlor is representing Kilkenny in the girls 40x20 feile skills. Good luck to all the competitors and their mentors

The 60x30 alley was in use over the last two weekends with All Ireland Club Championships and 60x30 Doubles Irish Nationals. There were some very exciting games on show and a big thank you goes to all the ladies who provided food for refreshments over the two weekends.
