Little Rascals

PLAYSCHOOL SPORTS DAY - The Little Rascals Playschool had their annual Play and Sports Day last Thursday week. Taking part in the play were, Evan Cullen(Daddy bear), Hivert Baraut(Mummy Bear), Tadgh Byrne(Baby bear), Anna Buckley(Goldilocks), Danielle Donovan(Snow White), Scott Hennessy(Huntsman), Dwarfs: Liam Keogh(Doc), Euan Bell(Sneezy), Dylan Minogue(Grumpy), Donncha Croke(Happy), Hannah O’Gorman Walsh(Bashful), Amelia Wemyss(Cheerful), Shane Doyle(Sleepy), Hansel and Gretel were, James Holmes and Sofia Khadabacksh, Shanice Waugh(Cinderella), Cathal Fanning(Prince), Ronan Dwan(Bob the Builder). Following the play, activities moved across the road to the Community Sports Field for the Sports Day. This included , Egg and Spoon Race, Relay and Sprint. Parents and grandparents participated, with Father’s Race being won by Barry Croke, followed in 2nd place by Robbie Fanning and coming in 3rd was David Waugh/David Doyle. Mothers Race: 1st Yvonne Khadababacksh. 2nd Patricia Dwan, 3rd Susan Hennessy. Grandmothers Race: 1st Joan O’Gorman, 2nd Moira Hackett/Frances O’Donnell. The Grandad’s Race was a classic with John Kinsella coming in 1st and Sean Donovan a close second. The day had special significance for the Tynan family as the James Tynan Memorial Trophy was presented to winner, Euan Bell by Pauline Tynan. James was with the Little Rascals Playgroup when he died unexpectedly some years ago. Pauline presented trophies to all the children and they also received Angel Pins and pencils. James’s grandmother, Frances O’Donnell was present and thanks went to Pauline and Brendan for their kindness in sponsoring the prizes each year. Refreshments were provided by Monica Duggan, Sabrina Ready and Tracey Mitchell.

WED IN PERTH- Married recently in Perth, Australia, were, Eoin Hanrahan, son of Eamon and Bridie Hanrahan, Kilfane and Stacey Jeffrey, Perth. The happy couple were in Kilkenny during the past few weeks and a celebration for family and friends was held in The Springhill Court Hotel, where the groom’s brother, Martin, ensured that everyone was well looked after.

COLLECTION WHEELCHAIR ASSOCIATION- The collection in Bennettsbridge for The Irish wheelchair Association was very well supported and realised, €287.00. The Tullaherin part of the collection will be held in the next few weeks.

ART GROUP - There is much interest in the present session of classes under the direction of Julie Moorhouse. Emphasis is being placed on drawing the human form and members are finding the classes very informative and challenging. It is proposed to continue for some weeks with a view to mounting an exhibition of work in progress during Kilkenny Arts Week, thanks to the very generous sponsorship of the V.E.C.

BOOK LAUNCH -Former Bennettsbridge Inter County Hurlers will attend the launch of Enda McEvoy’s tribute to Monsignor Tommy Maher, famed coach of the Kilkenny Hurling teams of the sixties. The book entitled, “ Godfather of Modern Hurling” will be launched in Langton’s on Thursday night.
