MRS. MAI RYAN - Deepest sympathy is extended to Brigíd Kirwan, Marie Gough, Margaret Maher, John and Joe Ryan on the death of their mother Mai. Mai lived all her married life in Ballyhendricken and spent the last four years of her life in Gowran Abbey Nursing Home. There was a large attendance on both occasions of her funeral.
Fr. Kieran O’Shea was the chief celebrant of her requiem mass. Co-celebrants were Fr. Richard Phelan, PP, Kilmanagh; Fr. P. Dalton, PP, Gowran; Fr. Norris, Maynooth; Fr. Purcell, CC, Cuffesgrange and Fr. Jim Murphy, PP, St. Canice’s. The choir sang appropriate hymns. Mai’s mortal remains were laid to rest beside her husband, Tom, in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ballykeeffe. Sympathy is also extended to her daughters in law, Mary and Ann, sons in law, Declan and Michael, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. Ár dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dilis.
ALZHEIMERS SUPPORT GROUP - This is a facilitated support group for carers of people with Alzheimer’s/Dementia who provide a safe space for information exchange, emotional and practical support and the opportunity to network with other carers in similar positions. Location: Alzheimer Day Care Centre, 1 Fr Walsh Close, Cootes Lane, Kilkenny (Behind the Village Inn). The Group’s next meeting is between 4pm-5.30pm (NEW TIME) today (Wednesday, 27 June).
KILBRIDE CEMETERY MASS - Kilbride Cemetery mass and Blessing of the graves takes place this Friday evening at 8.00pm. Callan Gardaí request all attending the Mass to use the FREE car-parking facilities adjacent to the Cemetery.
FOOD & CRAFT MARKET - Callan Food & Craft Market will take place in Droicheád Family Resource Centre every Friday beginning from 29 June from 9am to 2pm. Anyone interested in supplying products and having their own stand please call 056 7755519 ext 1. The cost of having a stand is €10 per day and all stand holders must have their own insurance. All are welcome to come along and have a browse or buy some locally produced products.

BALLYKEEFFE PRIDE - On 12 July Chapterhouse Theatre Tour Company show Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre. Join Miss Elizabeth Bennett and her sisters, her interfering long suffering mother, Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy and a host of other characters as they battle with the ups and downs of a romantic Georgian era where, “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife,”. Show starts at 7:30pm.
On 28 July, the great Jack L will perform an exclusive show in Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre. Tickets are €20 each and went on sale on 10 May at Kilkenny Book Centre, Rollercoaster Records and O’Connor’s of Kilmanagh. A 10% discount is available on any tickets bought before 1 July.
LOCAL LOTTO - Numbers drawn on Monday, 18 June were 10-11-27. There was no winner of the €800 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five winners of the €30 prizes.
ST. AIDAN’S HURLING - St. Aidan’s National School, Kilmanagh were unfortunately beaten by St. Canice’s in the final of the Roinn A Tournament. The final score was St. Canice’s 2 goals 12 points to St. Aidan’s 7 points. Although unlucky not to have scored more than they did, St. Aidan’s had a superb year overall.
