Gowran: Fasntasic day’s entertainment

FAMILY FUN DAY WAS GREAT SUCCESS - The Family Fun Day recently held in Young Irelands GAA pitch was a magnificent success as the late Summer Sunshine brought about a massive attendance. There was entertainment in abundance for all the family with plenty of activities taking place on the day such as hurling, soccer, skills challenge, dog show, milk a cow challenge, putting green, tractor wheel spin, face painting, while there was a kiddie’s play area on the day for the young children. It was a fantastic day’s entertainment with the glorious sunshine adding to the occasion. Sincere thanks to everyone who helped out in making the Family Fun Day a day to remember. Hopefully this event will be become an annual occasion. Meanwhile, on the playing field, the Intermediate hurlers will play their final round of their league group clash against St. Patricks Ballyragget in the coming weeks. That game is expected to go ahead on the weekend of the 23rd September, and if victorious, a clash with near neighbours Clara awaits them in the league final along with qualification for a Championship quarter-final. On the Camogie front, there was mixed fortunes for team who played in recent county finals. The Under-12s second team gave a clinical display of goalscoring defeating St. Lachtains 6-2 to 3-2 in the Group 5 decider, while the firsts despite a brave attempt lost out to O’Loughlin Gaels in the Group 3 decider. Disappointment for the Under-14s who were well beaten by Kilmacow 2-12 to 1-3 in the Under-14 Roinn C county final.
