Shane is Freshford Player of the year

AWARDS NIGHT -Freshford Town Soccer Club held a presentation awards night in Kavanaghs on Saturday night last to honour its players and members. Players of the year went goalkeeper Shane McGree, a most deserving recipient for his dedication and commitment during the year. Players Player of the year went to another fine player William “Fletch” Looby who was also thoroughly deserving of the award for his commitment and dedication to the team. The awards were presented by Club Chairman who paid tribute to the players and the team during the year and they are hoping for better fortune next season. There were two Lifetime achievement awards made on the night also to local men who have given decades of work and commitment to the Club. The first went to Gary Barnaville-who has spent the last number of decades with underage teams in the village-dating back to the eighties when he started U11 schoolboys and U13 schoolboys in the Club and had great success with the U11 and U12 at the time winning the U11 Cup in the first year and the double-league and Cup at U12. He is still involved with the youngsters and now teaches skills to the young 5-9 year olds getting them ready for U10 league. The second Achievement Award went to long serving Committee member and Treasurer John McGrath. John has been involved in Club for the last twenty plus years and is also one of the men who look after the Pitch also. John stepped down this year as Club Treasurer but will still be part of the Pitch management team. There was a mark Ireland’s participation in the Euro 2012 finals and trying to raise much needed funds for the club.  They have a beautifully framed autographed Ireland jersey autographed by members of including captain Robbie Keane and others like Keith Andrews and Shay Given The lucky winner of the Jersey was Evan Comerford c/o Mary C. Rafter, Threecastles. Second prize of an Ireland Jersey went to Ciara Delaney, Newtown.

There will be meeting for all Committee members on this Wednesday evening at 8.30pm. in the Club dressing rooms and all committee members are requested to please attend. Parents please note that soccer training sessions for 5-9 year old which are held each Saturday at 12 noon finished last Saturday for the summer break.

Lotto - There was no Jackpot winner in last weeks KDL Lotto and the Jackpot next week stands at €6,450. There was no match three winners.

GAA NEWS - St.Lachtains u-14 hurling team play James Stephens B at Larchfield this week. Well done to local young hurler Brian Kennedy who was on the Kilkenny U21 hurling team who beat Wexford in Nowlan Park on Wednesday evening last. Brian lined out at wing back.. Also well done to two other local young hurlers Shane Donnelly and James Maher who are both members of the Kilkenny Minor hurling panel which were beaten by Dublin in the Leinster semi final on Saturday evening last at O’Moore Park, Portlaoise, prior to the Leinster Senior Semi final.

St.Lachtains Minor Hurlers play St.Martins in the Conahy tournament at Pairc Lachtain this week..  The Junior A Hurlers beat local rivals Conahy Shamrocks in the North Junior A Championship/League game played in Pairc Lachtain recently on a scoreline of 3-12 to 2-12.

The Junior B hurlers were beaten by Danesfort in the first round of their league/championship recently.

Meanwhile the Intermediate hurlers lost out to St.Martins in the Byrne Cup at Coon recently.

CAMPA GAELACH BAN UI NDUACH-Threecastles Irish Camp is back for its third year this year. Enjoy a wide variety of activities in a fun and relaxed atmosphere through Irish. This week we hoped for sunshine as we prepared for our end of year music concerts. On Tuesday morning we welcomed the children from the Oasis Childcare Centre and our other new Junior Infants to our Teddy Bears’ Picnic and Recital. They brought their special teddies and other friends with them and enjoyed a picnic on the grass.

Our Senior Music / Choral Concert was held on Thursday 21st at 11.15a.m.. Parents and children enjoyed a morning of music and song from all around the world. Finally, our Sixth Class Graduation Mass took place in the school hall on Thurs. 21st June at 7.30pm. Refreshments were served afterwards by the Parent Association. We wish the Sixth Class all the very best in their new schools.

Afterschool Service - Oasis, Freshford & District Child Centre. Oasis Childcare Centre will be providing an Afterschool service from next September 1.30 - 5.45. The service will include picking up your child at the school, bringing them to Oasis where they will receive a hot meal followed by supervised study for approximately 1/2 hour. The remainder of the time will follow an exciting programme of activities indoor and outdoors. Fee: €13 per day. If you are on a social welfare payment you would be eligible for Subvention (CCS) Oasis when the charge would be €3 per day for the complete service.
