Camogie Club Awards Night - Over two hundred people attended the awards night hosted by Kilmacow Camogie Club which was held in the Community Centre, Kilmacow on Saturday, 3rd November. The attendance included club members, coaches and mentors, parents, grandparents and the many friends of the club.
David Williams, Chairman of the club opened proceedings with a word of welcome and a reflection on the great success of the club over the year. He referred to the souvenir booklet produced by the club which outlined all of the highlights of the year. A screen presentation of photographs was displayed to remind the attendance of all these events and activities of the past year. Among them were the Point to Point races held in Dunphy’s Field, the Fun Fiesta, the Fashion Show, the Ice Cream Party, the play ‘The three loves of Gabriel’ performed by the Eigse Players, Slieverue., Camán to Croker, The Jerry Harney Memorial Tournament, the camogie blitzes in different age groups and the involvement in the county development squads, representation on county teams, the county final wins at Under 14 and at under 16 and the fielding of a team at Junior level. Sinead Deegan was named Player of the Year on the Junior team. Special mention was made of Molly Harney and Danielle Dempsey who played on the Kilkenny Under 14 Camogie team.
Walter Walsh, the star of the All-Ireland Hurling Final replay was guest of honour and he congratulated the club on its most successful year. He said that he was honoured to be associated with the presentations to all of the teams : Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, Minor and Junior. He paid tribute to the work of the coaches, trainers and support teams for each of the teams.
It was befitting then that the players representing each of the teams made special presentations to Geraldine Williams, Bernadette Deegan, Ian Harney, Michael Dolan, David Walsh, Paul Grace, David Williams and Michael Lannon as acknowledgement of the great work they had performed in the past twelve months to assist the teams to achieve so much on the field of play. That the girls should chose to acknowledge this support is testament to the great bond of friendship, camaraderie and consideration for others that the club has engendered over the past year.
A special presentation of the pictures on the Under 14 and U 16 county final winning teams is to be made to St. Joseph’s GNS and St. Patrick’s NS.
Well done to all involved in organising the night. It was a fitting finale to a wonderful year.
KILMACOW SOCCER CLUB - UNDER 12 Our Under 12s got back to winning ways with a good victory away to Villa. The home side played very well in the first half and our lads took a while to get into their stride. Goals from Darragh McDonald and Tom Costelloe settled the nerves before half time. We took control in the second half. Darragh and Tom scored a second goal each. Sean Blanchfield then scored one goal and then set up Brandon Walsh for another. Dean Scully and Brian O’Mara also got on the score sheet. It was also a case of two penalties. Both were missed or, to be fair, both goalkeepers made superb saves. The Villa keeper denied Darragh his hat trick with a super save, getting up to divert the ball over the bar. Dylan Moore denied the home side a consolation goal near the end when he got a strong hand down to turn the very well struck effort around the post. The players on duty were Dylan Moore, Brian O’Mara, Pádraig Dempsey, Patrick Dollard (Capt.), Tom Costelloe, Robin Davis, Tom Butler, Conor Lyons, Keith Butler, Dean Scully, Darragh McDonald, Sean Blanchfield, Kieran Wallis, Brandon Walsh and Fergal Suffin.
