Danesfort: Fort defeat Evergreen

Soccer - Not for the first time this season, pride of place goes to the Fort Under - 19s who continued their great start to the season with a resounding 5-1 league win away to Evergreen on Saturday. The early exchanges were even with an early Emmet Nugent goal being cancelled out by an evergreen equaliser. John Rice made 2 fine saves as Fort weathered the evergreen storm. Gradually Fort got on top and a great ball over the top from David Burke was brilliantly finished to the net by Emmet Nugent to leave Fort 2-1 up at half time.Whatever managers Jack Fitzpatrick and Jim Nugent said to the boys at half time, it clearly had the desired effect as Fort started the 2nd half in dominant fashion. Great work down the right from Dion Fitzpatrick led to another cool finish from Emmet to complete yet another hat trick. An own goal made it 4v1 and an Emmet Nugent penalty after Colm Phelan, who was magnificent throughout, was fouled wrapped up the 5-1 victory to leave Fort top of the league with 3 wins from 3 games. Next up is an away date with the other unbeaten team in the league, Clover Utd, next Saturday. This team is playing really well at the moment so we hope that continues next weekend. Team v evergreen: John Rice, Lee Dunne, Ger Dunne(James Tynan), Seamus NcGrath, Patrick Tynan, Dion Fitzpatrick, James Lenehan, David Burke, Dara Hennessy, Emmet Nugent(Robbie Malone), Colm Phelan(Peter Butler).

More SOCCER - Last weekend proved to be frustrating overall for Fort Rangers teams on the field of play. The under 8’s went down 3-2 away to Bridge United after a great effort just came up short. The Under-10’s were defeated 3-0, also by Bridge United while the Under -14’s lost 4-1 to a strong Freshford Town side. Bridge United completed a weekend hat trick over the locals with a 3-1 victory in the St. Canice’s Credit Union Premier Division game on Sunday morning.Despite dominating the first half, some very bad luck in front of goal meant Fort had to be content with 0-0 at half time. Bridge took advantage of that ten minutes into the second half to go one nil up. A brilliant John Mulhall header brought Fort level and Fort looked to be back on top. However Bridge broke twice in the last 20 minutes to leave Fort 3-1 down and very frustrated, to lose a game they should have won. Team: David Buggy, Padraig Murphy, John Cahill, Seamus McGrath(Liam Forristal), Jim Nugent, John Bambrick(Tony Moran), David Forristal, Conor Bergin, Eddie Nugent, John Mulhall, Emmet Nugent. Unused subs.: Dion Fitzpatrick, Stephen McKenna, James Lenehan.

SCOUTS - The 15th Kilkenny Fort Grange Scout group urgently requires additional adults to come on board for a couple of hours a week as Scout leaders.  We have been in operation since May of this year but our group sizes are increasing and we have a number of waiting lists. We will also need to establish a Scout Group in addition to the Beaver Scouts and Cub Scouts already in operation to allow the Cubs to progress onto Scouts. If we don’t have enough leaders we won’t be able to open a scout group and the cubs won’t have anywhere to move up to. The more leaders we have on board the more kids we can accommodate.Your help would be greatly appreciated. It is only a couple of hours a week and is great fun for all involved. If you are interested & want to find out more please contact our Group Leader at the number below for an application form.
