Conahy: Local volunteers wanted

GAA - At the recent draws for the Michael Lyng Motors Intermediate Hurling League, Conahy Shamrocks’ intermediate hurlers were drawn to face last year’s junior champions, Thomastown, in the opening round. Other teams that the locals will face in subsequent rounds include Mooncoin, St. Patrick’s, Dunnamaggin and Young Irelands. Plans for the upcoming season will be organised when the newly appointed management team of Brian Young, Eamon Delaney and Declan Downey will meet the players on Friday night next at 7.30 p.m. in the GAA Clubhouse. All players are asked to attend.In senior football, Conahy were drawn against O’Loughlin Gaels in the opening round of the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Senior Football League, which will take place on the weekend of February 3rd. Subsequent matches will see the locals face Muckalee and Glenmore later on in the month.

MEMBERSHIP - GAA club membership is also now due for the coming year. The rates for 2013 are unchanged from last year – a single person rate is €40, a married couple rate is €60, a student rate is €30, and a social member rate is €10. There is also the option of pre-ordering a Piltown Co-Op draw ticket for an additional €30 (€50 normal price). Standing orders forms are also available on the GAA Club website if anyone wishes to pay by such means.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED - Conahy Shamrocks GAA Club is looking for volunteers for its Club Functions Committee to assist with catering in the GAA Club House, particularly after games. Those interested in helping out should contact Nickey Brennan (087-0565000). The GAA Club is also seeking volunteers for it Social Committee which will be responsible for organising social functions in the GAA Club House for Members, Supporters and Parishioners. Those interested in helping out should contact Toddy Lacey (087-2672753).

 FANTASY CHELTENHAM - Conahy Shamrocks GAA Club is participating in this year’s Fantasy Cheltenham Fund-Raising event which is organised once again by the Erin’s Own GAA Club (Castlecomer). Tickets will be on sale in the GAA Club House and from Committee members over the coming weeks. Players and Supporters are encouraged to only purchase tickets from Conahy Shamrocks GAA Club.

LOTTO RESULTS - The numbers in the recent Conahy Shamrocks GAA Club Lotto draw were 3, 4 and 7. There was no jackpot winner, so the consolation prize winners were Helen Cahill, Paddy Thornton, Ester Ring, Tony Duggan and Dick Downey. The promoters’ prize winners were Catherine Carroll, Mona Dooley and Declan Downey. This week’s jackpot now stands at €4,900.

CONAHY COMMUNITY PLAYGROUP CLOTHES COLLECTION - Start off the New Year by having a big clear out and help to raise much needed funds for the Conahy Community Playgroup. A clothes collection in aid of the Playgroup will be held on Thursday, January 31st in Conahy Community Hall. Any unwanted clothes, bags, belts, shoes, bed linen, towels, curtains, books and mobile phones will be gratefully accepted. Bags can be left into Conahy Hall on any morning of the week of Monday, January 28th until early on the morning of Thursday, January 31st. Your support will be gratefully appreciated for this very worthy cause.
