ST. JOHN’S STREET LEAGUES

ST. JOHN’S STREET LEAGUES

The St. John’s Street League which, this year, is divided into two groups of 7 to 10 year olds and 11 and 12 year olds started last Sunday morning with chief organiser John Sheridan making sure that each child gets loads of matches and plenty of time “on the ball”.

The Street League will then be played out and about in the housing estates of St. John’s Parish with the finals being held back in O’Loughlins on September 1st at 2p.m.

SENIOR TEA

The O’Loughlin Gaels Senior team will face a stern test this Sunday August 25th in Callan when they take on Ballyhale Shamrocks in round 4 of the Senior League Championship at 4p.m. Automatic qualification requires nothing less than a victory so Aidan Fogarty’s charges will be going all out to topple the star studded southerners. O’Loughlins supporters are asked to attend the game in big numbers this Sunday. With the county team making a rather earlier exit from the championship than usual, this is the place to see our top stars in action up close and personal. C’mon the ‘Loughs.

SUMMER CAMP

From every parent who had children attending this year’s O’Loughlin Gaels Summer Camp we say thank you to Niall Bergin and his colleagues for running the most enjoyable Summer Camp yet for the St. John’s Parish kids. Children from the age of 5 upto 13 (and the odd 14 year old) hopped out of bed every morning eager to get the Club for the days activities. One hopes they will show as much enthusiasm in September when they go back to school!

So thank you to Niall Bergin and all his colleagues from the summer camp.

UNDER 16s

The O’Loughlin Gaels Under 16 team have qualified for the County Semi Final against Dicksboro which is fixed for Wednesday September 4th at 6.30. The venue is at this stage undecided. This match is a repeat of one of the best matches ever seen at any level when the teams met in the earlier rounds of the League.

This should make for a large attendance and a brilliant atmosphere for the game, which will have some of Kilkenny’s best underage hurlers on show. As always we say best of luck to the O’Loughlin Gaels squad in their efforts to capture more silverware for the Club.

JUNIORS

The O’Loughlin Gaels Junior team recorded a brilliant three point victory over Mullinavat in Round 1 of the Junior Championship proper last Saturday night. This sets up a mouth watering clash with neighbours James Stephens in the next round. O’Loughlins have reached the semi finals of the Junior Championship for the last two seasons and this year are looking to go one better. Best of luck to all involved.

PAT O GRADY AND SAMMY JOHNSTON

Congratulations to O’Loughlin Gaels Under 11 and Under 12 coach, Pat O Grady, who steered the Kilkenny Intermediate team to the All Ireland Final when beating Galway 0.16 to 0.8 in the semi final last Saturday in Thurles. Well done also to Sammy Johnston who is a goalkeeper in the squad.Sammy is also the O’Loughlin Gaels Junior team ‘keeper. The final will hopefully draw a big crowd as it is against Tipperary and it has been suggested it might take place in Nowlan Park.
