The captain of Kilkenny College senior rugby team has been included in a 26-man panel for the Ireland U-18 schools camp and subsequent international test match against Scotland on March 25.

Shane Delahunt, who captained Kilkenny College in their recent school’s cup campaign, will be part of the camp that assembles today (Wednesday). The team is due to play Scotland this Sunday at 12pm in Coolmine RFC.

This squad will also compete in the U-18 Fira-Aer European Championships in Madrid from Wednesday, March 28 until Sunday, April 8. Ireland are the current European U-18 Champions and are hoping to retain their title.

Their first match is against Portugal U-18s and the result will determine whom Ireland will play in the next phase of the competition.

Shane has previously played for Leinster U-18s, and captained the Kilkenny College side to a league victory and school’s cup semi-final, which they narrowly lost to eventual winners St Michaels. He is the first U-18 schoolboy from the College to represent his country at this age level.

Congratulations are also due to Ross Bailey-Kearney and Luke Deacon, who have been chosen to represent Leinster U-17 Schools in a tour to Bordeaux in France from April 1-4.

The Leinster side will play a regional selection from a mixture of clubs including Toulouse, Toulon and Dax.
