CBS choirs release new choral CD

If you pass through the CBS Secondary School on any day throughout the school year, you are certain to be struck by the vibrant harmonies and sweet refrains that constantly echo through the school’s corridors.

If you pass through the CBS Secondary School on any day throughout the school year, you are certain to be struck by the vibrant harmonies and sweet refrains that constantly echo through the school’s corridors.

In addition to the success of the school’s sporting contingent, the CBS has always been very proud to have cultivated many of Kilkenny’s finest young talents in music over the years,

Now, for the first time, these talents have been committed to disc.

Under the musical direction of Mandy Dowling and Catriona Evison, the boys had no sooner returned from their Easter holidays when recording sessions began, continuing through April.

The CD, The Voices of CBS Kilkenny, was produced with the help of past pupil and recording technician Alan Dawson, and it is host to an abundance of diverse musical creations and collaborations to suit any listener’s taste.

From Eric Clapton to Ennio Moricone, from the Beatles to Bocelli, all of the school’s choral ensembles are featured: the CBS Junior Choir, TY Choir, Fifth Year Choir and Senior Choir, as well as performances from Ronan Doheny, Conor Brassil, The Octaves and a special rendition of Toto’s Africa to mark the first CBS Zambian Immersion Project to occur in the James’s Street school.

The CD is available for sale in the school’s front office for €10, a small sum considering the quantity and quality of the young musical talent to be heard on the recording. A warm thanks is extended to all those who contributed to making it happen.
