Transition-years from Abbey Community College went on a 25km hike up the Wicklow Way as part of their Gaisce award at the end of last month.
To achieve the award each student had to complete different requirements such as starting a new skill, physical recreation, community involvement and finally a 25km hike.
They stayed overnight in a youth hostel outside Enniskerry and went hiking each day. It was tough going up the mountains, but they all encouraged each other and it was a great sense of achievement reaching the top.
They had a wonderful view of Powerscourt waterfall which was magnificent due to the heavy rainfall. Even though weather was horrible, they all had a great time.
In the evening, they had a table quiz and a table tennis competition. It was a great way to finish off a fantastic year and they were all excited to receive the Bronze Gaisce awards at the Transition Year graduation night last Wednesday.
