SYMPATHIES - The parish of Lisdowney was saddened to learn of the death of Mick Kenny, Grange, at the weekend.
Mick passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday afternoon. A huge crowd attended the rosary, removal, funeral Mass and burial to pay their respects to Mick who was a much-loved and respected member of the parish. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, neighbours and the entire community. He was buried after Requiem Mass on Monday afternoon in Clontubrid cemetery. Sympathy is expressed to his wife Betty and children Lar, Noreen, Jacinta, Marie, Aideen, Michelle, PJ and Martin and extended family. As a mark of respect, Saturday evening’s scheduled Lisdowney versus Galmoy North Junior Championship hurling match and the Scoil Naomh Fiachra Clontubrid Parents’ Council Barbeque were postponed.
LISDOWNEY SEVENS - Ballyhale Shamrocks were crowned winners of the 2012 Lisdowney Sevens after defeating a strong O’Loughlin Gaels side 5-7 to 2-10 in the final of the Sweeney Cup on Saturday afternoon. A total of 32 teams took part in the competition, which is now in its 31st year. Ballyhale met the host team Lisdowney after beating Danesfort 3-10 to 3-4 in the quarter final. Lisdowney beat Dicksboro by a single point after a nail-biting finish in their quarter final 1-10 to 3-3. Lisdowney’s team of Jack McGree (goal), James Phelan, Laurence Campion, Niall Brennan (Captain), David O’Carroll, Ben Tallis, Cathal Jordan, Gary O’Sullivan, Mark Fitzpatrick and Conor Tallis played brilliantly throughout the tournament and gave it their all in the semi-final with only two points separating the sides at half time. However, Ballyhale upped the tempo in the second half and pulled away, winning decisively by 1-10 to 0-3.
The final of the Kilkenny Supporters Club Shield saw neighbours Young Ireland’s of Gowran battling it out with Barrow Rangers of Paulstown. The game went to extra time after both sides had scored 1-8 at full time. It was Barrow Rangers who had the edge in extra time scoring 1-1 to secure the win. Tom McEvoy, Chairman of Lisdowney Bord na nOg thanked the organising committee and all of the clubs who took part in the very successful tournament. The Player of the Tournament was awarded to Eoin Wall of O’Loughlin Gaels. Match three winner was Breda Phelan. Next week’s jackpot is €4,400. The draw will be held on Monday, 13th August 2012 in Mackey’s Bar, Gathabawn.
JJ KAVANAGH & SONS NORTH JUNIOR A HURLING LEAGUE - Lisdowney were beaten by Conahy on Friday, 27th July 2012. The final score was 2:11 to 24 points. JUNIOR HURLING - In the JJ Kavanagh and Sons Hurling Championship, Lisdowney beat Barrow Rangers last Wednesday, 1st August 2012.
UNDER 14 CAMOGIE - The county semi-final scheduled for Saturday, 28th July 2012, was cancelled due to a bereavement in Tullaroan. Lisdowney Camogie Club extends it’s sympathies to the connected families and friends.
UNDER 14 HURLING - Congrats to the Under 14 hurlers who have reached the County Final after beating Tullaroan last week.
