PASTORAL COUNCIL - The Mooncoin Parish Pastoral Council monthly meetings have resumed after the summer recess. The Mission Statement of the Mooncoin Parish Council is that Mooncoin Parish will strive to reach out to all in its community, listen to their needs and foster a sense of belonging and inclusiveness. To enable the people of God to support one another in faith and walk together in their daily living with Jesus our Lord. The Council members are Fr. Peter Muldowney, Pat O’Neill, David Conway, Teresa Connolly, Sr. Eileen Glendon, Marie Foskin, Lucy Quinn, Tom Jones, Sr. Mary Lenehan, Jason Dunphy, Mary Grace and Eoghan Cooney. The Council is implementing the Mooncoin Parish Strategic Plan 2011-2013, updates on progress will follow over the coming months. BUS SHELTER - Cllr.Pat Dunphy, Mooncoin, has welcomed the decision by Kilkenny County Council to progress with a bus shelter in Mooncoin. This has been raised repeatedly for many years and it is indeed welcome for those who use the bus service and have to wait around in all kinds of weather. A budget has been provided for provision of 10 shelters throughout the County, with two being provided in the Piltown Electoral Area one of which is at Mooncoin. “ Tender documents were being drawn up for supply” Cllr. Dunphy said.

Coláiste Cois Siúire, Mooncoin participated in a fund raiser before the summer break. they called the event Cot for Crumlin and they got some local River Cot owners to partake in cot races at Polerone Quay in Mooncoin. The students did a sponsored walk to Polerone Quay on the day and over €4,700 was raised. The school has been chosen as the Leinster winner of the Fun Raise 4 Kids 2011/12 campaign. Annually four provincial winners are chosen and one winner from Dublin and Coláiste Cois Siúire have emerged victorious from the Leinster region! The school will receive a trophy, some vouchers and the story will be used to inspire others to fundraise for Crumlin for the next campaign ahead. A visit to our school with the Trophy is to be organised for the near future.The late Kevin Cooke - Kevin Cooke, Brothers of Charity, Elm House, Mooncoin, Co. Kilkenny and late of Narabane, Kilmacow died last weekend at Elm House, Mooncoin. The funeral was to St. Senan’s Church, Kilmacow, Followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
St. Brigid’s Hospital - The staff of St. Brigid’s hospital, Carrick on Suir are holding an open afternoon, and official opening of their new hospice rooms. You are invited to share a cup of tea and a slice of cake with them to celebrate the new building. Open afternoon is from 2-6pm Official opening by South Tipperary hospice committee and blessing of rooms at 5pm, on Sunday 21st October. Please note that car parking space is very limited in the hospital grounds, so we ask that car’s be parked away from the hospital.
Autumn Craft Fair - Slieverue Community Volunteers Autumn Craft Fair will be held on Sunday 21st of October in the John O’ Donovan Centre from 10am to 6pm in Slieverue. Admission is free. This is a great day out for all the family to see the amazing crafts from the local community. Chill out have tea/coffee browse through the crafts on offer. Local band The Shift will debut their first performance together. Have your face painted, meet Butt the Bear and president Michael D Higgins’ stand in. Hope to see you there. All are welcome.

Carrick Camera CluB - Carrick camera club is now open for new members. Presently the club has an exhibition of over 90 framed prints at the Coast Guard Station, Love lane, Tramore. Some would make lovely Christmas presents or just home décor.
The late Martin Kennedy - Martin Kennedy, Kilbride, Glenmore, Co. Kilkenny, died on Sunday last. The removel was from Cooney’s Funeral home, New Ross to St. James’s Church, Glenmore where the burial also took place. Deepest sympathy to his family, relatives and friends.
