Good win for under 14s

Under 14 Hurling- The first half of our Roinn ‘A’ encounter with O’Loughlin Gaels was played in ideal conditions for hurling last Thursday evening St. Johns Park. The game was evenly matched until about halfway into the first half when we found the O’Loughlin net and another goal soon after put us well on the way, giving us a commanding enough lead at HT Dicksboro 2-6 O’Loughlin Gaels 0-5. However, conditions deteriorated in the second half and the game turned into a more dogged affair. The ‘Boro were always ahead but O’Loughlins never gave up and if not for some very good saves by our keeper near the end, the result may well have been far closer. FT Dicksboro 3-10 O’Loughlin Gaels 0-13. Panel: Colin Dempsey, David Ryan, Cian Butler, Eoghan Moylan, Evan Carroll, Chris Kavanagh, Justin Cahill, Liam Kennedy, Joe Sheehan, Oisin Gough, Sean Boyd, Edward Moylan, Brian Cleere, Johnny Manogue, Alan Corcoran, David Campion, Jack Condren, Cillian Timmons, Mark Nolan, Conor O’Mahony, David Delahunty, Jack Connolly, Sean Foley, Liam Stynes, TJ Stynes, Kieran Galvin.

Under 12 Hurling- What a truly fantastic day was had in sunny Castlecomer today for the annual Erin’s Own Gerry Holden Perpetual Trophy. The honesty, determination and zeal shown by all players is what makes our Gaelic games the greatest sports in the world. Hats off to ‘Comer for their hospitality and organisation. The ‘Boro were invited back as defending champions and our group consisted of Dunnamaggan and Erin’s Own and in the other group there was O’Loughlin Gaels, Kilmacud Crokes and Carnmore (Galway). Dunnamaggan were our first opponents and we got on top from the start, leading at HT by 1-3 to 0-1 and eventually winning by 4-4 to 1-2. Erin’s Own were next and they proved to be much more difficult opposition. ‘Comer went in at HT leading by 1-3 to 1-1 but they had been playing with the assistance of the wind and with our puckouts landing in the opposition square, it was only a matter time before we bagged some goals and these were enough for us to come out on top by 3-5 to 1-6. On the other side, Kilmacud had finished on top and so we had to face them in the cup final. Two evenly matched teams put up a superb performance and some of the skills on display were beyond the years of the players. Full time finished all level and so we headed into two five minute halves of extra time which also ended level. It was decided that the final would go into sudden death, the first to score taking the laurels. Kilmacud scored after four minutes and our heroes were vanquished. Panel: Tadhg Butler, Mark Kenny, Liam Hennessy, Liam Brennan Smyth, Mark Nolan, Bobby O’Mahony, Eoghan Moylan, Evan Clarke, Eoin De Buitlear, Liam Stynes, Tommy Farrell, Sean Richardson, Justin Cahill, Nicky Burke, Mitchell Synott.
