Platform dancing revived at sacred heart nursing home

the residents of the Sacred Heart Nursing Home and the local community in Crosspatrick, Johnstown, held their summer celebration of music and platform dancing last week. The huge throng of people who braved the elements were in no mood to let rain spoil the celebration. The large marquee that was erected on the grounds provided refuge for the residents and friends to enjoy the dancing and for Dermot Lyons who provided the music. The platform resounded to the ‘toe and the heel’ all afternoon as the dancers ignored the rain showers and it was quicksteps, waltzes and the sets. There was even a solo Sean Nós performance from Phil Fogarty of The Islands, Urlingford.

The event was dedicated to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland with the proceeds of €1,600 going directly to the society.

It was a day when the neighbours gathered and ensured that the residents who are spending their retirement among them had a very special day to remember. Tommy Butler, Freshford captured all the highlights of the day on DVD and are available to purchase from Tommy.
