The Acorn Club is holding this meeting as they are now preparing for their Annual Variety Show that will take place later this year. The show, which was run for the first time last year, proved to be a highly popular sell-out event. They are therefore offering you the opportunity to take part again and are encouraging new talent to take part.

However, there’s more! The Acorn Club will take the Irische Nacht (Irish Night) show to Germany in March 2013. This has proven to be hugely popular with the German audience and through the show close links and friendships have developed over the years. The show will take place in Dagerheim Germany on March 6th . Details of the costs will be available on the night. To help defray some of these costs for performers, the Acorn Club has organised a Savings Club in order to enable people to save a little every week.. The savings Club meets at the Acorn Club) in Bohercrussia Street every Monday evening from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. Special accommodation arrangements have

been made for young people intending to travel. Full details will be available on the night. So go along to Freshford Community Hall on Mon. July 23rd at 8:30pm and meet with the Group! (Please note this is not an audition and children may only attend if accompanied by an adult.)

FRESHFORD COMMUNITY MARKET - Freshford Community Market started up on Friday last in Freshford and will be held each week from 10am to 12 pm. Local producers are most welcome to come along and sell their wares on the beautiful village green, weather permitting, or if not, in the local Community Hall. There are various home produced goods on sale including Home baking, jams, eggs, bread also arts and crafts etc will also be available. All are welcome. You are encouraged to go along and support your local market and help it to grow as well as getting the best of all home baking and home grown products. It is hoped that the market and producers with grow over the coming months.

CABARET -There will be a Fundraising cabaret in Kavanaghs Bar on Saturday 21st July in aid of Prague House. Music will be by The Kitchen Session with Liz Kett and Tony Coy and numerous local artistes. Raffle and spot prizes on the night. Admission is €5 and the Committee are asking you to support this fund raising Cabaret please.

SOCCER - All is quiet on the soccer field at present. This is closed season and all teams are taking a break. The sessions for 5-9 year old each Saturday morning are also on break for the summer holidays.

Work is continuing in the pitch at present for the forthcoming season.

The Club held its AGM recently with some new faces coming on board. James Burke is Chairman again for another year. There is a new Secretary Moira McCarthy and the New Treasurer is Sabrina Grace. PRO is Eileen Garrett. Outgoing Secretary John Joe Campion read his report as did outgoing Treasurer John McGrath. John McGrath and Gary Barnaville (who looks after the U9 boys ) received Lifetime Awards from the Club recently for their years of work. Meanwhile outgoing Secretary John Joe Campion has served the Club at different intervals for 25 years or so in total and did Trojan work over the years. John Joe is now a member of Kilkenny & District League Committee and was appointed Secretary of the Disciplinary Committee recently.

Training has resumed for the Junior team for the forthcoming season and will continue every Wednesday evening at the Sportsfield at 7.30pm. You can follow the Club on facebook for up to date forthcoming events.

BOWLING TIME- The annual Bowling Competition at Cascade starts this week. It was put back due to weather conditions The draw for the first rounds was made recently in Kavanaghs . This year competition is on a knock out basis and it is hoped to start the first rounds finished by the end of the month. UPPERCOURT RESTAURANT - The newly refurbished and luxurious Loop Restaurant at Uppercourt Manor, Freshford which opened recently to the public is doing well . GAA NEWS – St.Lachtains u-14 hurling team beat John Locks of Callan convincingly in the league game played in Freshford last week .They play Tullaroan in Pairc Lachtain in a table topper on Thursday evening and your support would be appreciated (see fixtures for confirmation)

The U 16 Hurlers were due to play Ballyhale Shamrocks in Ballyhale on Friday evening but this was called off due to inclement weather. They play local rivals Lisdowney in Freshford on Friday evening at 7.30p.m.(see fixtures for confirmation)

The Junior B hurlers play O’Loughlins in Johns Park this week in the third round of the Northern Junior B League/Champions(see results)

St. Lachtains intermediate side are in action next weekend. All roads lead to Lisdowney on Sunday for the clash in the Intermediate with neighbours St.Patricks of Ballyragget. The match is set for 1.30pm.but see fixtures for confirmation. They played Glenmore in a challenge game in Pairc Lachtain on Saturday afternoon last. Congrats to Local lads Brian Kennedy and Jimmy Meagher who were part of the Kilkenny Intermediate Hurling panel which beat Wexford in the Leinster final recently week in Wexford Park. Brian was also on the Kilkenny U21 hurling team who beat Wexford in the Leinster semi final recently.

Bord na nOg- St. Lachtains Bord na nOg are holding a Cabaret in the Rock Bar on Friday 20th July with Music by the Abbey Folk. Your support would be greatly appreciated for this fundraising event.

Well done to local young girl Caoimhe Bergin, Blackwood who was chosen to play in the mini sevens during the halftime break in the Leinster final at Croke Park on Sunday last.

Freshford Active Retirement -Group members travelled to Bishops Palace, Waterford recently and were taken on a very interesting tour of the building . They also went on a trip to Altamont Gardens and to Huntingstown House in Clonegal. CEMETARY MASSES- The annual cemetery mass took place in St.Lachtains Cemetery Freshford recently with a big crowd in attendance. Mass in Tulla Cemetery will be on Friday 3rd August.

Spin the Wheel- The winner of Spin Wheel in Kavanaghs on Saturday night last was Paddy Walsh, Poulbawn who won himself €65. The winner of second prize was Johnny McCarthy. St. Lachtain’s N. S. News - The process of enrolling new pupils for the school year 2012/2013 is currently under way in St. Lachtain’s N.S., Freshford and will continue into the summer holidays. Afterschool Service -Oasis, Freshford & District Child Centre Oasis Childcare Centre will be providing an Afterschool service from next September 1.30 - 5.45. The service will include picking up your child at the school, bringing them to Oasis where they will receive a hot meal followed by supervised study for approximately 1/2 hour. The remainder of the time will follow an exciting programme of activities indoor and outdoors. Fee: €13 per day. If you are on a social welfare payment you would be eligible for Subvention (CCS) Oasis when the charge would be €3 per day for the complete service.
