FOND FAREWELL TO LISDOWNEY’S OLDEST PARISHIONER - Nora Bergin (nee McInerney) bade farewell to the world last week, just a few days short of her 99th birthday. Sheoriginally came from Co Clare and lived in Mount Eland for all her married life. She spent the last number of years in the O’Gorman home and Brookhaven. She was interred beside her daughter Florrie in Clontubrid on Saturday. She has one surviving sister and a legacy of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Sympathies are extended to the Bergin family. Mrs Bergin’s memory lives on for the parish on a daily basis in the two beautiful altar clothes she crocheted for the Church in Clontubrid.

CEMETERY MASSES - Cemetery Masses will be held in Tifeaghna on Wednesday, 11th July 2012, Clontubrid on Tuesday, 17th July 2012 and Aharney on Friday, 20th July 2012. All masses will commence at 7.30 pm.

LISDOWNEY LOTTO - Monday - winning numbers were 3, 8, 10, 21. There were no winners. Match three winnes were Annmarie Doheny, Eileen Carroll, Tony O’Hara and Anthony O’Hara. Next week’s Jackpot is €4,000 and the draw will take place in Mackey’s bar , Gathbawn.

Monday 2nd July 2012, winning numbers were 7, 8, 14, 28. There were no winners. Match three winners were Brophy family, Gerry Warren, Ann Roberts and Jamie Swan.

PLAYER DRAW - The Saturday morning training raffle last Saturday was won by Matthew Banville and Liam O’Gorman.

INTERMEDIATE MATCH - Ballyragget play Freshford in Lisdowney this Sunday 15th July at 1.30pm. A huge crowd is expected for this local derby, and stewards are needed. Can as many locals, club members and players please come to the pitch for 12.30 to assist with stewarding.

JOHNSTOWN SWEATERS WANTED - UNIFORM & SCHOOLBOOK SALE - Over the next few Saturday mornings it is hoped to sell on clean, good condition uniforms and books for the local schools. If you attend any of the local schools, Lisdowney, Gathbawn, Clontubrid, Colaiste Mhuire, Castlecomer Secondary school, Kierans, CBS, Loretto or Presentation, and have good condition uniforms or books on the current booklists please give them to Elaine McEvoy, Theresa McGinn or Karen Cahill, or bring them to the Community Centre next Saturday morning at 10am. Please label clearly all items. Jumpers €5, Trousers and skirts €3.

BUS EIREANN -SERVICE to Johnstown, Cullahill, Durrow and Abbeyleix. This services ceased to operate on 30th June 2012, the new Route X 8 service is going into operation on July 1st 2012. However, Bus Éireann is planning to put in place, a temporary commercial shuttle service that will operate six times a day in each direction, Monday to Sunday, between Johnstown, Durrow, Abbeyleix and Portlaoise from 1st July 2012 for a six week period while the NTA examines potential longer-term solutions for public transport provision in this area.

The shuttle service will operate from Johnstown to Portlaoise via Durrow and Abbeyleix at 08.40, 10.40, 12.40, 14.40, 16.25, 18.40.

The shuttle service will operate from Portlaoise to Johnstown via Abbeyleix and Durrow at 9.20, 11.20, 13.20, 15.20, 17.20, 19.20

JUNIOR A HURLING - Last Tuesday they beat Freshford 2:12 to 1:13 in Freshford with Denis O’Sullivan refereeing.

UNDER 14 LEAGUE - They beat the Rower Inisteoige 7:13 to 6:5.

COCA COLA SEVENS - 31st Annual COCA COLA U-13 Hurling Sevens 2012 will be held on the following dates: Group 1 matches: 21st July 2012

Calor Launches Community Champion 2012 - The search is now on to find the local champions in each of our communities who work tirelessly each and every day to improve the lives of the people around them. Calor believe it is time that these people were recognised and celebrated, and they?ve set aside a prize fund of €10,000 to do this! The search for local unsung heroes will be led by TV and radio personality, Hector Ó hEochagáin.
