Dungarvan - Tidy towns fundraising cabaret

LOCAL WOMEN IN PORTLAOISE PRISON-Last Thursday week a group of women from the Dungarvan area were admitted to the Midlands Prison, Portlaoise. I hasten to add that the women, members of the Dungarvan Set Dancing Group, were not “sent Down” by a Judge or Jury but were invited by the Prison Officers to perform at a party night run every year for the elderly of Portlaoise Town. As well as entertaining the large gathering, they all enjoyed a wonderful reception. The set dancers gather at the Ouncel House every Thursday at 8pm, to hone their skills and rehearse new sets .Newcomers are always welcome.

APPEAL FOR SUPPORT -For the past number of years the local development and tidy towns group has organised a fundraising event and members have called to homes in the area seeking support. At their monthly meeting for February the committee decided that because of the financial pressure that a lot of families are experiencing at this time,it was decided not to call to houses, but to run a cabaret at the Ouncel House on Saturday March 23rd. Music on the night will be provided by the most popular and talented JACKIE McCRANKEN and friends. Tickets at E3 each will be available on the door on the night. The work carried out in the village and the success in the Tidy Towns Competition has always been well recognised and people have been very generous in their contributions. Some people may not be in a position to attend the cabaret but may wish to contribute to the fund . Donations can be dropped into the Ouncel or to Helen Greene, treasurer of the group.A door prize and raffle will be on offer at the Cabaret. The association wishes to thank most sincerely all who have contributed over the years to the efforts of the group through their labour and subscriptions.
